Dear Spirals Families,
It is with great sadness that we must inform you that after 30 years, Spirals Gymnastics will be closing our business at the end of this month. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our Spirals’ Director, Janine Wilson, the Spirals Board, our coaches and the commitment from our Spirals families, we have been able to survive the pandemic for almost two years using creative solutions from training the gymnastics team in a backyard to holding rec classes at Girsh Park and finally in the warehouses on La Patera Ln.
As you know, we were given notice at our current warehouse and had been looking into other facilities that we could operate our gym from. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find a viable option that would be affordable and big enough for our training needs. UCSB has said that we will not be allowed back in Rob Gym anytime soon. In addition, our outstanding Director, Janine, who has been the glue of our organization during the pandemic, has also given notice. She has a degree in Biomedical Engineering and would like to pursue a career in that field.
Please know that we did not make this decision lightly and only after exhausting all our options. Without a facility to operate the gym out of, a Head Coach or a Director, we are left with no other option than to close the gym. We are working with Girls, Inc. to support building their program to integrate as many of our athletes as possible. Our plan is to move much of our equipment to their Goleta location. We have recommended our coaches apply to Girls Inc., and they plan to hire some of our coaches to expand their current class offerings.
Spirals Gymnastics has been a critical institution in the Santa Barbara gymnastics community for 30 years, offering professional gymnastics instruction for girls and boys aged 3 to 18. Over the years we have produced State and Regional champions, as well as athletes that continue their athletic career at the college level. Many children have developed their skills and love of gymnastics though our program. We are deeply saddened that the organization we love will be coming to an end. We will dearly miss our Spirals families and community.
Our last day of operations will be January 29, 2022.
